WAKE UP PEOPLE! The alarm is going off. Look at where we are as a society today. A lot of people with influence—politicians, celebrities, entertainers, athletes—are openly supporting and saying things that are evil are good, and things that are good are evil. Isaiah 5:20 KJV, “Woe unto them who call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Accordingly, my comments are not a political statement but a spiritual statement.
So here is my question. Have we lost a reverence or fear of God? Have we let society dilute our morals and our sense of right and wrong? Do we no longer stand in awe of God as God Almighty, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lord’s? He is our God, our Creator, our Savior and Redeemer, our Teacher, Counselor, Comforter. He is the Heavenly Father, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit—all worthy of praise, honor, and glory.
So what does it mean to show reverence? Reverence is defined as deep respect, profound adoring, awed respect, awe, fear, and honor.
When Moses approached God in the burning bush, look at what God said to him, Exodus 3:5 NIV, “Do not come any closer,” God said, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” This shows God demands and deserves our respect.
I believe that we have become too casual in our relationship with God. In our churches, our families, at work, in our recreation, and in our daily walk with God. Do we truly stand in awe of Him? Do we show Him deep, profound, adoring respect and honor?
In David’s writings, he states in Psalms 89:5-7 NIV, “The heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness too; in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord? Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings? In the counsel of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. O Lord, God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O Lord, and your faithfulness surrounds you.” If God is feared and reverenced like this in heaven, should we have any less respect for Him?
Let me challenge you to read all of Psalms Chapters 86 and 145. Read them deeply and meditate on what each verse is saying and then stand in awe and reverence of God, our Creator.
I am so thankful that God loves me and wants the best for me. I praise Him that I can go to Him in prayer in worship and praise and lay my requests before Him. But I also stand in awe of Him as God Almighty and Almighty God. Psalms 86:12-13a NIV, “I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me.”
The name of our God is worthy to be reverenced. May we stand in awe of Him!!!
